Native fishermen and farmers recognised that merchants from other places were developing Koh Taoto provide the needs of all these new visitors and they too instantly initated a businesses to fulfil the visitors demands. Occasionally progress can be a wonderful thing, fortunately KoTao has maintained its relaxed atmosphere, ]it is,it's] still nigh on impossible to find a crowded beach. This was the same year that the first settlers laid claim to a big portion of land on which is now known as Sairee Beach. In the beginning of 1980's brought to Koh Toa some of the first people from Koh Phangan who were seeking for something new away from the crowds and masses who were going mad for the Full Moon party on Koh Phangan. Here they located something more than just a new island to explore and soon the back-packer groups were energetic about the wonderful newly found island paradise. Mesmerised by the striking pure white beaches, the back of beyond aura, and of course the cheap living, back packers soon came in droves. Arrivals and departures were on the local coconut boats, and even then setbacks of several days were frequent. Back to the hammock and a world of dreams; The boat comes another day . Therefore, as its status for dazzling nature, unique marine life and wonderful landscapes grew, easier access was made available when improved and safer boats were brought in to handle the number of back packers, being attracted to the island.

Their lives mainly consisted of collecting coconuts, growing vegetables and fruit and sustaining with fishing. Koh Toa's status spread and rapidly improved as it extensively became known all over the world through international travellers and adventurous visitors. The most visited of the bay, Sairee Beach especially in high season are filled up with sun worshippers but there's also less visited, more hidden bays and beaches. In 1947, then Khun A-Paiwong, Thailands Prime Minister at the time, asked for and received a royal pardon for KohTao's prisoners and thanks to a gracious act by The King of Thailand.
